The Social Action Committee leads us in tikkun olam, repairing the world. On a local level, our congregation volunteers at and/or supports local food pantries, and donates unwanted clothing to shelters and hospitals. In addition, participants are sponsored in the Orange County Literacy Program, and blood drives are scheduled.
Through the auspices of the Religious Action Center (RAC) in Washington, D.C., the temple generates awareness on national and international subjects of concern, such as global warming and HIV/AIDS. For Project Jacob’s Ladder, a national relief effort organized by the URJ for Hurricane Katrina victims, the temple organized a regional effort to pack and send a tractor trailer to the south. To raise awareness of the Sudanese genocide in Darfur, the committee led a month-long educational effort, in cooperation with the local interfaith clergy association. For this effort, we won one of the prestigious 2007 Fain Awards, presented by the RAC at the Consultation on Conscience, in Washington, D.C.
Contact one of the committee chairs to attend the next meeting or to become involved in ongoing projects. Or, just look for one of the committee members at the Social Action Table in the lobby on Sundays during Torah School.

Please join us in honoring Mike’s memory with “Mike’s House”, a project to renovate a home for a needy and deserving family in Orange County through Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh. This started with members of Mike's temple community and has spread to the Jewish Community of Orange County, and now the larger community of Orange County as well.
On January 12, 2010, a series of massive earthquakes devastated the impoverished country of Haiti, with tremendous destruction of property and loss of life. The country is still reeling, as aftershocks continue to rumble and spread more destruction. Please support our Union's efforts to send relief to the victims of this terrible disaster, by clicking here.
Life will be brighter than noon; You will shine, you will be like the morning. You will be secure, for there is hope.
